Day 24

Today we again got on a ferry leaving Northern Ireland and headed for Scotland! On our way to the dock, we drove through the Dark Hedges. It is a tree-lined road Where the branches are so intertwined it brings a feeling of darkness to mid-day. The trees grew in a curved formation over the road and then straight up. We passed a couple cars and a big tractor with a spreader on the back, while driving through it. Closer to the ferry we stopped to get gas and sandwiches for lunch on the boat.

We boarded the ferry to Scotland shortly before lunch. When boarding we got into lines, and drove up the ramp into the ferry and parked. After we were stopped we had to get out of the car and go up to the lounge area. We chose to sit in the dinning area at tables to be able to eat lunch at a table. The chairs were bolted to the floor and they swiveled. There were people all around eating, talking, laughing, walking, sleeping, staring at a device, and just watching the scenery go by. In the trip across to Scotland we could see land most of the trip. Landon and Bria, played games on the mini iPad, and after getting bored Landon sat and watched the time go by, while Bria read on a kindle. Jack sat and read on the kindle, and so did I. Dad also read on his kindle fire and Mom slept, and watched the scenery go by. We all felt kind of seasick on the journey over.

After the 2 hour ride was over we disembarked and headed to stay at a bed and breakfast for one night. The b-n-b was very nice. All 4 of us kids got to share a room and right across the hall was Mom and Dad’s room. The lady who welcomed us was very nice and excited to be hosting us overnight. Her granddaughter, who was 2, was also there running around with a big grin on her face at all times. In one room, that they had closed off, the lady told us had parakeets and a big dog in it. We could hear that this was true. For dinner the lady told us of a place in Biggar called The Crown, where her son-in-law worked as a chef. It was a fancier restaurant than we would have picked, but the food was very good. I got BBQ ribs, and they were delicious! The next morning’s breakfast was made by our host’s son-in-law. There was a huge variety of food to choose from like, cereal, Scottish kippers, eggs and toast, and much more Scottish breakfast items. After the huge Scottish breakfast we drove the rest of the way to our next Airbnb house in a little town called, Braehead.
