Day 6

First day in Patreksfjordur, Westfjords, mom took us to see a couple waterfalls. On the way to the first falls we spotted snow that was really close to the road. Jack, Bria, Landon, and I got out and ran to touch it, it was cold and dirty. But it was fun to be able to say we touched snow in Iceland!

In a little town called, Bíldualur, they opened up the sea monster museum just for us. It was closed for the season, but the man who runs it said that he would call his brother and have him open it to give us a tour. It was a very dark and spooky place, telling you all about the sea monsters that people claim to have seen. They had replicas there of what people described seeing, with a story to go with each one. In the main room among other things there were maps and videos showing where people had spotted the sea monsters. In the middle of the main room was a half circle book case for displays that mom really liked. Icelanders seem to really like their sea monsters!

While driving there were many falls along the way, large and small, all beautiful in their wildness. It is fascinating how they appear to spout out of the top of mountains.

A huge one, Dyjandi was way back a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. No one was there when we pulled up. When I got out of the car it was cold and I could hear the strong, force of the crashing water hitting the rocks below. Jack, Bria, and Landon immediately ran/walked up as far as the trail went. They were drinking the water, which was surprisingly good, cold fresh mountain water!

Mom and I took our time getting up the hill to where they were. We took many pictures of the water and the view. Mom found some wild berries, that Landon wanted to try. The berry had a black color, and grew on a very small plant. It kinda remind me of a poke berry. Mom said it was a bilberry. After spending a good 30 to 45 mins at that falls we got back in the car and had a snack.

Next stop was a statue of a mans head sitting on the top of a big concrete rectangle. There was a big opening that all four of us fit into, so of course we had mom take a picture. We saw one other statue not far from the one we stopped at and also more waterfalls along the way. At one place the scenery looked brilliantly blue with the sky and the water. Now that I have seen the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, that is what I think of when I see the picture. Brown cliffs, blue sky and water. The picture on the left is from Iceland and in the right is the Cliffs of Moher.

We then headed home and had a restful day, doing school.
